Created in His Image is a biblically based, pro-life presentation, that empowers and equips adults and young people to respect and value every human life, born and unborn

Every one of us have been created in the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1:26). That's why every life matters, no matter the circumstances surrounding their conception. Every person has intrinsic value and worth. God has a purpose and plan for every human being. Which is why Broward Right to Life offers a biblical, science- based presentation on the life issue.

Abortion is a controversial issue. There's no doubt about that. But, more importantly, it is a biblical issue. God's word is not silent on the value of every human life. Consider Mary, the mother of Jesus. Look at the circumstances surrounding her pregnancy. Young and immature. Unmarried. The talk of the town. That is how God chose to bring the Messiah into the world. Circumstances shouldn't dictate if one has a child.

Sadly, too many individuals don 't know the facts about the unborn on abortion. They have bought into the lies that the unborn child isn't fully human and doesn't have value. And that the unborn child's life depends on the mother's circumstances. The mantra of “my body, my choice” is widely believed but utterly false. It's not just the woman's body. She is pregnant with an unborn child. This is an individual human being growing inside of her.  God's word says, You knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:13,14).

The science of Embryology concludes, unequivocally, that human life begins at conception. It is a scientific fact. Did you know that the majority of academic biologists say conception is when life begins? At that moment, the sperm and egg combined to create a new human being – an Individual with unique DNA that determines sex, the color of the hair and eyes, the dimples on the cheeks and the clefts in the chin. All that child will become is spelled out in that unborn baby’s DNA.

Another scientific fact. At 21 days after conception, the heartbeat of that unborn child can be heard on a Doppler radar. There is blood flowing through that child's veins. Look at this image at 4 weeks after conception.  Would you say that this is a mass of tissue or a blob of cells? Or that he/she is insignificant? That’s how we all began!

Even though this embryo looks very primitive, it is very developed! A whole embryo is formed by the end of the first month, measuring in at a quarter to half inch long. The body has a head with rudimentary eyes, ears, mouth and a brain that already shows human specialization. There are simple kidneys, a liver, digestive tract, umbilical cord, and a blood stream. After a few days of practice, it is beating 65 times a minute to circulate the newly formed blood that is needed to nourish the embryonic tissues.

The unborn baby appears to have a tail, but this is the early spinal cord, which, in anticipation of the elaborate human nervous system, is temporarily longer than the rest of the body! One can see the amazing development of this new, little human being. Which is you!! Isn’t that amazing?

At the eighth week, the unborn baby goes from an embryo to a fetus. Do you know what fetus means?  Fetus in Latin means “little one or offspring.”  Have you ever heard anyone say, “It’s just a fetus?”   Prior to the eighth week, the unborn baby’s body is made up of cartilage (like what is on the end of your nose) but now it has a bony skeleton. The baby is much more defined.  Their fingerprints are beginning to form. Look at your finger. No one has that fingerprint but you. You are unique. And, the baby is not less significant at this stage, but more significant.

This is what the Lord says—your Redeemer, who formed you in the womb: I am the Lord, who has made all things, who alone stretched out the heavens, who spread out the earth by myself.
    Isaiah 44:24

At the 12- week stage, the baby is like a little acrobat in the womb, able to move around with much flexibility. The eyelids close over the eyes and won’t reopen until the sixth month. The ears and eyes develop in proportion to each other. The child can cry. Girls and boys begin to look distinctly different now. The reproductive organs become well-formed. The brain is fully formed. The vocal cords are developed.

You can even see the personality of the baby coming out, as he/she sucks their thumb. The baby occasionally urinates in-utero.  The baby is growing fast.  And in just a few short months, the mother will begin to feel the “fluttering” as she experiences the child’s first kicks.

Sadly, most abortions occur in the first trimester. So many women, and men, have been deeply wounded physically, spiritually and emotionally from abortion. I understand. I was  18 when I became pregnant. I was pressured into having an abortion. I was told that I was too young and immature. What would people think of me. I wasn't married. It was only a ms of mass of cells and a blob of tissue.  Abortion was my only option.

When I found out the above fetal facts, my heart broke. When I discovered how abortions are performed, I was devastated. That's why I have a passion to share these truths with others. Every life has value. Every life has potential. Every life is created in the image of God.

And who are we to decide who lives and dies? Our circumstances can look overwhelming.  I can see how God worked all together for good in my life. At the time, I didn't see how that could be worked out. But He is a God of redemption. And that is why we need to trust Him. And lean into Jesus and His sacrifice on the cross. That is his unconditional love for you. He can bring healing and restoration to your heart. He's done it for me, and He'll do it for you. One can experience forgiveness and freedom after abortion. The Bible does not describe unborn children as meaningless tissue. God calls them known, formed, created, and loved. Life is sacred because God is the Author of life.
