Janet Porter, one of the nation's foremost pro-life leaders, speaks on Nov. 19 to the Broward Right to Life Benefit Breakfast. Janet is the architect and energy (see video below) behind the pro-life Heartbeat Bill, a breakthrough measure which ensures that "if a heartbeat is detected the baby is protected." Because the unborn child's heartbeat is detectable at six weeks gestation, the measure protects many more infants from abortion.
Protecting Babies in 17 States Sparked by Janet’s leadership, Heartbeat Bills have been introduced in 30 states and passed in 17, including Texas, where the number of abortions committed fell by half, as a result. Porter also spearheaded the effort to pass a Federal Heartbeat Bill, which gained 174 co-sponsors—more than any other pro-life bill. Janet has served as national director of the Center for Reclaiming America (1997-2002), and as Legislative Director of Ohio Right to Life (1988-1997). At Ohio Right to Life, she successfully lobbied for passage of the nation’s first Partial-Birth Abortion Ban. She also secured passage of the Woman’s Right to Know Law (and 24-hour waiting period), Parental Consent, Fetal Homicide, clinic regulations, adoption reform, patient protection, and de-funding of abortion. A powerful speaker, Janet has debated Dr. Jack Kevorkian and the presidents of Planned Parenthood and NOW (National Organization for Women).
