Heartbeat Bill Architect Calls for Bill's Passage in Florida

POWERFUL TALK: Janet Porter, the architect and driving force behind the life-saving Heartbeat Law, entertained, inspired and challenged attendees at the 49th annual Broward Right to Life Benefit Breakfast, Nov. 19, 2022. The Heartbeat Law, passed in 15 states, protects babies from abortion once their heartbeat is detectable--at about 30 days after conception. As Porter puts it, "when the heartbeat is detected, the baby is protected." She urged Breakfast attendees to call Gov. Ron DeSantis at (850) 717-9337 to urge him to come out in support of the measure.

Janet Porter, one of the nation's foremost pro-life leaders, spoke Nov. 19, 2022, to the Broward Right to Life Benefit Breakfast. Janet is the architect and energy behind the pro-life Heartbeat bill, a breakthrough measure which ensures that "if a heartbeat is detected the baby is protected."

Because the unborn child's heartbeat is detectable at four weeks after conception, the measure protects more infants from abortion than any other measure, except for an outright ban to protect all preborn babies. Dr. John Willke, the late father of the modern pro-life movement, estimated that the Heartbeat bill would protect more than nine out of ten unborn children who would otherwise be aborted.

Protecting Babies in 15 States
Sparked by Janet’s leadership, Heartbeat Bills have been introduced in 30 states and passed in 15, including Texas, where the number of abortions committed fell by half, as a result. Porter also spearheaded the effort to pass a Federal Heartbeat Bill, which gained 174 co-sponsors—more than any other pro-life bill.

A 2017 Barna poll found that 69 percent of Americans agreed with this statement: "If a doctor is able to detect the heartbeat of an unborn baby, that unborn baby should be

legally protected." And the poll turned up bipartisan support for the Heartbeat bill. Republicans (86 percent), Independents (61 percent), even Democrats (55 percent) all registered support for the Heartbeat bill.

Call Governor DeSantis
Despite that widespread support, Florida has yet to pass a Heartbeat bill. The 15-week ban now in force fails to protect the more than 90 percent of infants killed by abortion before 15 weeks. Which is why Folger urged the Benefit Breakfast crowd to call Governor Ron DeSantis, asking him to support a Florida Heartbeat bill. You can do that by calling the Governor's office at (850) 717-9337.

Our hope, prayer and purpose is to see that Governor DeSantis and the Florida legislature will act swiftly to protect the unborn child by passing a Heartbeat Law, without exceptions, to protect even more unborn children from abortion.
